“A Christmas Carol”- Adapted by David Thacker and Performed by Colin Connor

We live in hard times – but the famous Christmas story of four ghosts visiting Ebenezer Scrooge brings hope to us all.

Charles Dickens is a genius as a storyteller. In David Thacker’s adaptation, Colin Connor will be playing over 30 characters, to bring Dickens’ wonderful story to life.

This will be the fourth collaboration between Rising Moon Productions and Form and Pressure, following American Buffalo (March 2024), Faith Healer (January 2025) and ‘That Can’t Have Happened!’ (March 2025)

A Christmas Carol is the most famous and popular Christmas story. Theatre adaptations are performed in different languages all over the world.

Charles Dickens loved giving public readings of extracts from his own work, including A Christmas Carol, in which he performed many characters.

Since then, many actors have performed different one-actoradaptations of A Christmas Carol. Patrick Stewart performed a version for many years, Simon Callow performed one for several seasons and Jim Dale has performed a version.

David Thacker has created his own one-actor adaptation forColin  Connor. He has directed Colin in more than twenty productions.

David Thacker said:

I love Dickens and I love A Christmas Carol. And I’m veryhappy that there will be so many productions of different adaptations all over the UK this Christmas.

I hope this adaptation for one actor allows the audience to hear Dickens voice more clearly. Although Colin will be playing 34 characters, about two thirds of the text is Dickens’ narration. What makes a one-actor production so special is the combination of the versatility of the actor and the genius of Dickens’ storytelling. Colin is an incredibly versatile and powerful actor and I’m loving working with him to bring Dicken’s wonderful story to life.

I have edited the text carefully to create a ninety-minute show, but every word is written by Dickens. Nothing has been added or rewritten.
