Who are we?

The Immersive Arts Labs by Future Artists are in their 3rd Year, founded in 2016 by the Future Artists collective (founded 2009) as a space to create rapid prototypes of Virtual Reality, Augmented and Immersive Arts performances that fuse together spatial computing and performance, and then explore what the hell that is!

We are a diverse and welcoming bunch of people – the skills required to explore this new emerging art form are various, think about what it takes to put together a film, a piece of theatre and a computer game, and then kinda merge all of them, this is the dynamic creative world we find ourselves in – the space is best suited to creatives with an open mind and a sense of entrepreneurship, polymaths welcome!

The collective hang out in a facebook group, which can be found here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1537457282955910/ - it is recommended that you join this group and have a read of some of the posts for relevant information.

Each lab accommodates new people, so don't worry if this is your first time, the labs are set up to be a place to introduce new creatives to the fold and also allow more experienced members of our community to lead and thrive. (Many of our leadership team is formed from people that came to the early labs and stuck with it)

This particular lab, is a half day, kinda re-cap – the community have not met up for a few months and so we need to re-connect and catch up, and we are also going to introduce, for the first time, a major project to the lab, which was starting to take shape in lab 6 – so we will spend a couple of hours looking at this challenge and how we can produce a piece of work to tour across the UK/World.

Finally at this lab, we will have a number of short talks from our lab community on a variety of relevant topics curated by the producers for this lab, and a number of Virtual Reality demonstrations – if you have anything to show, please bring it along, with the equipment required to demo it and in the final part of the day, you can share it with people.

Schedule

11am – Doors open – welcome coffee and tea

11.20am Start – Introductions and Welcomes

12pm – 3 Talks in 1 hour – Embodiment in VR and the Immersive experience via on-boarding / Motion Capture and Performance / The Journey of a VR Artist – Each talk will last around 10-15minutes and have a Q+A

1pm – Lunch (Provided by Home MCR)

1.45pm – How do we undertake a major project inside the lab – a look at the challenges and the possibilities of creating micro-budget group work for festivals.

3.30pm – Demonstration's in Motion Capture, a chance to test out various Virtual Reality and have a good old catch up and social.

End around 5/5.30pm

This event is free, and the labs are ran currently as a not for profit venture, but we do have costs such as tea and coffee and paying for transport for the speakers and some of the technical loaned equipment, if you can, please pop a donation on the ticket page, if you can't, thats ok too.
