Attempts on Our Lives

Who exactly is Anne? An influencer? The subject of trolling? The result of capitalism?

23 years since the release of the text, see a selection of Martin Crimp’s scenarios plunged into the world of YouTube and social media.

Inviting you to piece together the fragmented and bewildering text, ‘Attempts on Our Lives’ is a live-streamed theatrical adventure into the imagined online world of Anne, bringing Crimp’s text to life - from Instagram stories to TikToks.

The highly digital, highly mediatised world of the 21st century brings new relevance to Crimp’s 20th century text.

Join the live stream which will take you on a journey from the hilarious to the terrifying, as we question Anne’s online identity and question the state of our own identities in the networked world we find ourselves in.

Warning: Suitable for ages 18+. Contains strong language, themes of sex and violence, loud noises, flashing images/lights and audience interaction.

HOW TO WATCH

This show will be taking place on YouTube Live. On the day of the show you will be emailed an exclusive link to the YouTube livestream where the show will commence.

As this show will incorporate a live chat element with the audience, we recommend logging into or signing up to YouTube in order to take full advantage of this feature.

Admission: Pay What You Can.

Pay What You Can is an ‘honesty box’ for the theatre. We and the artists will continue to programme and produce high quality events and ask you to pay what you can afford.

As always, your generosity and support through buying tickets and engaging with our student work astounds us. We’re delighted to be supporting the charity 500 Acts of Kindness this year, with all funds raised through ticket sales going to the charity who support families or organisations in need. Former Coronation Street actor and Take Back Theatre Co-Founder Julie Hesmondhalgh co-founded the organisation in 2019; since then it has raised over £80,000, and continues to go strong.

As a guide, for those in full time employment we would appreciate you paying between £5 and £10. We also understand people's income can be precarious, hence the free and lower price options.

Please note that all tickets come with a Fatsoma booking fee of 50p.
