Watch US Dance

You are invited to Watch US Dance on Friday 26th November at 7pm!

University of Salford Dance students are excited to share the choreographic and performance work they have developed under the choreographic direction of Tuck Shop Dance, Coalesce Dance Theatre and Elisa Macauley over the first six weeks of this new academic year.

The work draws on the experiences, hopes and desires of the dancers as the world reawakens to a new era of responsibility to each other and our planet. Expect highly charged performance, breath-taking dance and reaffirmation of our individual and collective responsibility to be the change.

We are excited to share this digital platform with Hawk Dance Theatre and a live recording of their impassioned work, A Moment.

This screening will be streamed on Vimeo. On the day of the event you will be emailed an exclusive link to the platform where the screening will commence.

November Moon - Elisa Macauley (10 mins)

We long for its guidance, we look to it for peace, we crave its attention, we feel its power when it illuminates the night” - Kailey Brennan

This piece responds to shared ideas inspired by the Moon.

The dancers continuously move through modes, contemplating the powerful energy which influences the earth’s tidal pull, stimulates our intuition, and deepens our spiritual connections.

Choreography by Lisa Cullen, Elisa Macauley and dancers

A MOMENT - Hawk Dance Theatre (20 mins)

Hawk Dance Theatre present A MOMENT; a male duet exploring a meeting and departure between two strangers. A moment of connection, a moment of calm, a moment of chaos, a moment of honesty.

This film was commissioned by Pride Trafford and Waterside Arts, featuring dancers Jack Hilton and Josh Wild. Original Music by Lee Affen.

The Flood Tuckshop Dance (27 mins)

The work is about the times we find ourselves in…

We explore Freedom, Connection, Our Low Moments, Good, Bad and Possibility of the times we find ourselves in right now. We also explore the importance of touch, shared moments, our relationship with nature, Lockdowns and the impact of those on our society. We each write a letter of hope to someone struggling right now. The piece also references loss and shared grief that has emerged during these times. The piece is based on that… It is a piece that looks at wellbeing… It should feel like a group hug to the world.

Where The Light Found UsCoalesce Dance Theatre (25 mins)

The light can pass through, but it’s one way traffic. Just a slice, illuminating a place where time moves at an unforgiving pace. Bodies below shrink and crash under the claustrophobic pressure of a cycle that repeats at the start of each new day. Where The Light Found Us is an exploration of fear, chaos and resolution. This highly physical work uses a unique movement language inspired by the natural fear responses triggered by the central
nervous system. This adrenaline-fueled work combines contemporary dance, lighting and set to create a mesmerising spectacle which will thrill audiences.

Coalesce Dance Theatre is a Manchester based, female led contemporary dance company. Directors Fern Wareham and Rachel Maffei have established an ethos that places people at the heart of their practice, specifically supporting and making space for underrepresented female voices in their work.

Admission: Pay What You Can

Pay What You Can is an ‘honesty box’ for the theatre. We and the artists will continue to programme and produce high quality events and ask you to pay what you can afford.

As a guide, for those in full time employment we would appreciate you paying between £5 and £15. We also understand people's income can be precarious, hence the free and lower price options. All revenue from ticket sales for events at New Adelphi Theatre will always go back to support professional artists, through residencies, commissions, touring work or for more bespoke projects where the student experience is enhanced through co-creation with arts professionals. We thank you for all your continued support.

Please note all donations come with 50-75p booking fee.
