DYP Mini-Fest

DYP Mini Fest 2022 presents the work of eight up and upcoming contemporary artists who make performances across a range of forms, mediums, styles, and themes. Using audio and immersive experiences, performance art, site specificity, poetry, audience involvement, noise, storytelling, video. There is something here for everyone. 

 

Audience: This event is open to staff, students and invited guests. Age restriction 18+.

Admission: Signup Sheets for each performance will be available on the day and at a first come basis.

Festival timings: 10:20am – 4:00pm

Performance space: New Adelphi Studio and walk around campus.


LINE UP

Plastic by Jo Sheehy - 10:20am – 10:40am Studio Theatre:

In some ways, Sensory Overload effects the experience of time in such a way that is becomes both static and moving.

This performance will involve high volume (ear protection is provided), and very low light. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 30 audience members for this piece.


HER ending by Molly Batch - 11:00am -11:20am Studio Theatre:

This ‘chose your own ending’ style interactive performance asks audiences to quite literally ‘weigh up her options’. This one-woman interactive show combines pre-recorded video and live performance to tell the story of a young woman struggling with bulimia.

In person the audience will see Her with a button on either side of her. Behind her, instructions will be given in the style of a video game that they are assigned a player (1-5) and they will be asked to choose what actions take place by pressing one of the two buttons throughout the performance.

This show examines how the actions of individuals can impact the mental health of another and asks of the small audience how they feel knowing that they are powerless in helping someone when they cannot control the actions or choices of others.

Displays themes of eating disorders. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 5 audience members for this piece.

Special Ceremony by Ebberechi Ngene – 11:40am – 12:00pm Studio Theatre:

The story about how a special ceremony came into existence.

Themes of Death and Celebration. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 20 audience members for this piece.

The Morpheous Project by Liam Dodd – 12:20pm – 12:40pm Studio Theatre:

An art exhibition exploring a man's dreams and desires to be what society wants him to be.

Displays themes of Alcohol, self-harm, depression, anxiety, depictions of homophobia. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 20 audience members for this piece.

Plastic Doll by Melissa Boyle - 1:40pm – 2:00pm Studio Theatre:

Plastic doll is a life-like human companion doll that moves independently just like a real woman! You can customize and programme her to respond to your commands, your desires and your fantasies, all in the privacy of your own home. Join us at our exhibition at PlasticDollLtd headquarters to learn more about our newest model and see her in action. We can’t wait to turn her on!

This show contains themes of degradation and objectification of women. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 20 audience members for this piece.

On My Honour by Josh Macdonald - 2:20pm – 2:40pm Studio Theatre:

A tribute to a lost loved one. A Thank you for everything.

Themes of Death, Depression and Alcohol consumption. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 20 audience members for this piece.

Dream World by Court WhiteSmith - 3:00pm - 3:20pm Studio Theatre:

Welcome to the Dream World, isn’t a night of peaceful sleep the most pleasant thing one can wish for? Come with me and dream away for a night through worlds and wishes unknown. Who knows what we will encounter in the Dream World – but don’t worry nothing is real, is it?

During the performance strobe, haze, scent and loud noise will be present. As well as display themes of panic attacks. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 25 audience members for this piece.

Crossroads by Jade Williams - 3:40pm – 4:00pm Campus Walk:

Crossroads is an audio experience and walk that takes us on a night out; from being at the bar to your walk home. Specifically, looks at women's safety which is a hot topic now; it is being spoken about on the news, social media and even on night outs. But are we listening? Constantly women are told one thing and then another we are at a crossroads. No matter what we pick, are we really safe? Crossroads offers you an experience to dive into a women’s reality as well as hear from other perspectives. There are voices to be heard…open your ears…

You will need headphones and your phones to access the audio walk.

The journey will be from outside the New Adelphi Building to the Student Union Bar, Atmosphere and then your walk home.

This performance explores themes and features verbatim accounts that some might find distressing. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 15 audience members for this piece.
