The Paediatric 12 hour course.

In the UK, professional child care providers such as nannies, nursery carers and child minders must complete a suitable paediatric first aid course at regular intervals.

The course covers all aspects of Primary Care and Secondary Care, plus training on febrile convulsions, sickle-cell anaemia and meningitis.

The Highfield Awarding body for compliance 12 Hour Care for Children programme meets regulatory requirements (Ofsted) necessary for such a first aid course.

The paediatric 12 hour course covers all aspects of dealing with children in an emergency situation. From CPR, bleeding, choking and bandaging to assessing an ill or injured child. We cover the emotional aspects of dealing with child emergencies and advice is also given on dealing with distressed parents or carers in an emergency situation.

The first hour after an incident or accident is know as the "golden hour". This is the time where the biggest difference can be made by a first aider who is often first on the scene.

We teach you to look after yourself before helping with a child or infant by assessing the scene and using barriers. We teach CPR skills and defibrillator use. In this part of the course we also include other life threating first aid skills including serious bleeding and choking.

Defibrillator (AED) use is taught as standard on all our courses.

The course duration is a minimum of 12 hours. Once completed the certification lasts for 3 years and costs is £110 per person including VAT.
