Established in 2017, we’ve had an array of comedy names, including Taskmaster and Britain’s Got Talent contestants, stars from Ricky Gervais’ ‘Derek’, and big screen names like Dave Johns ('Fishermen’s Friends', 'I, Daniel Blake') and Brett Goldstein ('Ted Lasso'). In addition, we've welcomed numerous comedians from popular panel shows like Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, and Would I Lie to You?, as well as a plethora of guests from BBC’s legendary 'Live at the Apollo’.

💥 TOM DEACON

Tom Deacon burst onto the stand up comedy scene after winning Chortle’s Student Comedian Award. His solid stage presence and slick timing led to him support Doc Brown and Katherine Ryan on tour. With several critically-acclaimed, sold-out, solo shows, Tom has appeared at the world’s biggest festivals, including Glastonbury, Reading, Edinburgh, the New Zealand Comedy Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. An accomplished radio presenter, he's had his own radio shows on BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM, and TV appearances include The Rob Brydon Show (BBC Two), Dave’s One Night Stand (Dave) and Edinburgh and Beyond (Comedy Central).

💥 JULIAN DEANE 

Widely celebrated for his ingenious punchlines, Julian Deane is an award-winning British stand up comedian and writer. Within a few years of starting stand up comedy, he was named Best New Comedian by the Comedy Café in London and won the ITV Stand Up Hero and the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year competitions. Julian has performed on The Russell Howard Hour and supported Paul Chowdhry on his sold out tour. His witty writing skills have also been put to use, with writing credits including Jimmy Carr, Mock the Week, Never Mind the Buzzcocks , Unspun with Matt Forde and Morgan Spurlock’s New Britannia. Julian and fellow comedian Carl Donnelly host the podcast Two Vegan Idiots.

Our compere and your host for Stand in The Basement, Colin Owens, is an award-winning stand-up comedian, who has worked with Jimmy Carr, the teams behind The Inbetweeners and Mighty Boosh. Described as ‘laconic and charming’, Colin talks about his failings, inadequacies, mistakes and general stupidity, all tinged with an air of paranoia and insecurity, but delivered with supreme confidence and sexual edginess!

📅 WHEN: Stand Up in the Basement is a once-a-month comedy night, always on the last Tuesday of the month.

🕗 TIMINGS: We aim to kick off the show at 8pm. There'll be an opening act, short break, two rising acts in the shorter middle section, another break, and we'll finish up with the headliner. The show typically finishes around 10.30pm. The bar downstairs will be open before and after the show, and the upstairs bar will be open during the intervals.

🏠 VENUE: This event is now (not in the basement, but) upstairs at Heartbreakers Bar & Venue, located at 7-9 Hanover Buildings, Southampton, SO14 1JX. Check out their website here.
