DMLab Gloucester - Show & Tell #1 - Feeling Sound

DMLab is a community of makers and musicians using our skills to develop new accessible musical instruments. This programme is already running in London and Manchester, and we will now be bringing our own version of DM Lab to Gloucester in 2025 and 2026.

Show & Tell #1 - Feeling Sound is an afternoon of presentations as part of our DMLab Gloucester programme exploring the intersection of music, disability and technology.

For this first session we will be joined by

Professor Rachel Edwards

Rachel is a lecturer at the University of Warwick specialising in the application of ultrasound in industry, particularly using electromagnetic acoustic transducers, and has a side interest in adaptive musical instruments. She is also a senior fellow at Warwick Institute of Engagement and will be talking about her work with haptics and feeling sound.

Robin Thorn

Robin is a musician, programmer, designer and creator based in Bristol who works in the intersection between music technology and accessibility with a particular interest in spatial audio and haptics. They will be demonstrating some of their recent work creating immersive spatial environments.

Adrian Bossey

Adrian Bossey is Chair of the Association for Events Management Education and a Trustee of Attitude is Everything. Previously, he was a Head of Subject at Falmouth University, overseeing events, tourism and business courses. As both a former academic and an artist manager whose clients included Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine and Chumbawumba, Adrian has both attained a UK Number One album and achieved a Guardian UK number one subject ranking in Hospitality, Events Management & Tourism. His research interests include potential digital futures for accessible live performances for people who are d/Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent at music festivals.

There will also be an opportunity to experience some of the haptic and vibroacoustic equipment which we use at The Music Works to engage D/deaf, hearing impaired and neurodiverse young people in music making.
