Light Source presents- Bonnie Bakeneko, Bodily Alchemy

Welcome to the Light Source Night School Talks Program

We are pleased to present our fourth talk in our series, by Bonnie Bakeneko, Bodily Alchemy.

Transmutation, transformation and transcendence- Queer trauma processing through magick and live art body ritual.

Bonnie Bakeneko talks about the magickal act of transmutation through the queer body. He works with ritualistic acts of body modification which forge paths for trauma processing. Through administering his own form of exposure therapy Bonnie is able to address issues of sexuality and gender into a language the body understands

Bonnie Bakeneko is a non-binary transmasculine pansexual artist who runs Bakeneko Designs from the UK. His work centres mainly around trauma processing and deals with themes of gender, body horror and psychosexuality. He initially started working with these themes as a kind of self administered therapy and it grew from there. He wanted to create a safe space of transformative healing and self empowerment for those that have experienced trauma and social othering. Bonnie has exhibited as part of Pride London, performed at the iconic Torture Garden and been featured in Dazed and Confused and Hunger  you will have seen some of their amazing designs on Drag Race.

Light Source is a program of talks exploring Witch Hunts and Ritual Performance hosted by artist Amy Kingsmill.

This is our fourth talk in a series of 12 monthly talks and workshops on these themes, please check back at our website as we announce our full list of speakers and dates.

Light Source brings light to lost histories of persecuted people- primarily women, and honours them. It explores and expands the use of body performance techniques and contextualises them within the practice of queer people and women, creating a space to share these techniques & histories.

This talk is at 7pm at William Waldo Suite, Friends House Euston Road. 173-177 Euston Rd, London NW1 2BJ

This project is funded by the Arts Council England.
