basics | Volume 6

'basics' is a series of shows which host a mixture of stripped-back music & poetry in intimate venues around Brighton. The diverse and carefully curated line-ups have generated a growing reputation around the city and led to every show being sold-out in advance. They've also appeared three times in the Folklore Room's ‘staff's picks of 2024’ and received outstanding reviews from Rapture Magazine, Brighton Source & WeLoveBrighton. Next Thursday (10th of July), we’ll be back in Folklore Rooms for the last time this year. 

To round off our run of shows at the beautiful venue, I’ll be headlining this one myself alongside my incredible band. We’ll be playing jazz-infused Hip-Hop with a number of special guests including Amy Palmer, Arjun Nala & kavzad. All of whom have previously had their own sets at basics.

We’ve got three other amazing artists playing next Thursday. Firstly, a true storyteller & phenomenal musician - Lily Lyons. Signed to the prestigious Fiction Records, Lily is currently working on her debut album with producer Joel Potts (George Ezra, London Grammer) & will be sharing some of it with us next Thursday.

As always, we’ve also got an amazing poet. This time it’s the punchline king, Big Scoop. Possibly the best wordplay poet I’ve ever come across, his bar-filled style deals with a multitude of important topics in a truly unique way.

Last but not least, Route 500 will be joining us for a stripped-back acoustic set. Route 500 is the musical world of Derek Inver, whose observational lyrics, compelling vocals and dissociative recollections make up their dynamic, lo-fi sound.

It’s due to be another lovely evening of music & poetry in the beautiful Folklore Rooms.
