Formed in 1984, The Men They Couldn’t Hang have spent more than four decades building a reputation as one of Britain’s most important and enduring live bands. Emerging from the Shepherd’s Bush busking scene, they quickly became renowned for powerful songwriting, social commentary and an electrifying live presence that earned them a devoted following across the UK and beyond.
Their career has taken them across Europe, North America and major international festivals including Glastonbury, Reading and Roskilde, alongside performances with artists such as David Bowie, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and The Smiths. Their catalogue includes defining songs such as Green Fields of France, Ghosts of Cable Street, Ironmasters and The Colours, music that has consistently combined history, politics and humanity with passion and authenticity.
Following their acclaimed 40th anniversary tour and Best Of release, the band continue into 2026 with renewed purpose, new material and the same commitment that has sustained them for generations.
