Waterloo men: the records of Wellington’s Waterloo Army

By taking two men who fought at Waterloo and exploring how different records bring their careers to life, Carole Divall will demonstrate the hidden stories that can be found within army records.

Many people researching their Waterloo ancestors' military careers will turn to record series WO 97 in the hope of learning interesting details from the pension returns. This often ends in disappointment because not all soldiers received a pension. By exploring further into army records, researchers can create a much fuller picture of an ancestor. An unmissable talk for anyone researching those who fought at Waterloo.

Carole Divall is a former teacher who now researches, writes and lectures on the Revolutionary Wars. She is the author of four books, three of which have focused on the experiences of the soldiers of the period, with much of the information coming from material held by The National Archives.
