To mark Salford’s centenary, From The Other and Producer Charlie Deakin-Davies have been working with five artists, all with different connections to the city, to create the definitive sound of Salford today. Rooted in the artists’ personal connection to the boroughs, the songs explore Salford's history and the diverse communities who have chosen to call the city home.
Over the summer they have been writing and recording, and Saturday 14th November will be the first opportunity to see their collection of songs performed live at the iconic Swinton Grand Palais—with a full AV production—ahead of its release in 2027. Performing the record will be: Salo, The Thirsty Poet, Che3kz, Meduulla, Sam Seth, Charlie Deakin-Davies (charlieeeee) and a ten piece ensemble from BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Shifting seamlessly from jazz-inspired hip-hop to raw anthemic indie, to sweeping, Bond-esque ballads and hard-hitting grime, this live show will take you on a journey through a rich tapestry of genres that mirror the diversity of the city. Woven throughout are the authentic voices of Salford residents, all knitted together by the sharp, rhythmic spoken word of The Thirsty Poet.
The songs also feature voices of communities from Age Friendly Salford, Salford Youth Zone, Monton Community Choir. Music producer Charlie Deakin-Davies led the project, collaborating with community partners and artists to write, record and produce all of the songs.
