The British left is at a crossroads. Five years on from the end of the Corbyn project, with Labour austerity raining down, we face choices on our electoral strategy - a new left party, the Greens and the Labour left are all in play - and on how we can rebuild social and industrial struggle.
We must begin by learning the lessons of the immediate past. The 2010s and early 2020s were an era of foodbanks, riots and the rebirth of political alternatives. This Is Only Beginning: the making of a new left tells the story of that period, from the student and anti-austerity movement in the aftermath of the financial crash, all the way through Momentum, Brexit, and the cost of living strikes.
Its author, Michael Chessum, was a first-hand participant in those movements, as a figure in the 2010 student movement, national treasurer of Momentum, and as the organiser for Another Europe is Possible.
Join us on Thursday 8th May for a talk about the book and a discussion on what we should do now.
