King Champion Sounds / Pellethead / Crumbs

King Champion Sounds are a seven-piece Anglo/Dutch band formed in 2013 by Ajay Saggar (Dandelion Adventure, Donkey, The Bent Moustache and The Common Cold), with vocals and lyrics by G.W. Sok  - founder member and frontman for 30 years of Dutch DIY punk legends The Ex.  The line-up is completed by second guitar player Oli Hefferman (Year Of Birds, Shrug), bass, drums, and two horn players. The result “touches on the jams created by The Fall, Can, Sun Ra, Captain Beefheart, Public Image Ltd and King Tubby”.  They released their superb fourth album, “For A Lark”, in November 2018.  This will be their debut Leeds gig.

Pellethead, from Middlesborough, formed over twenty years ago when four fools with an overwhelming urge to play live music decided to form a band, and then spent a year learning how to actually play their instruments. They knew they liked bands that followed no trends, who put on a proper-good show and who had a good sense of humour. So that is what they aimed for. Because they learned as they went, the sound evolved into a certain kind of madness with the three songwriters in the band swapping lead vocal duties on every song.  They play their own brand of rock'n'shamble, often described by others as punk, post-punk or new-wave.  This will be their first gig in Leeds for over a decade.  Bring some cash along, ‘cos once you’ve seen them you’re bound to want to buy their fantastic album “Best of a Bad Bunch”, released on vinyl in 2018 on Vic Godard’s GNUinc label.

And bringing a dose of colourful DIY post-punk to the evening are local heroes Crumbs, who are Ruth (vocals), Jamie (bass/vocals), Gem (drums) and Stuart (guitar). They write no nonsense indie pop songs with a delightfully rhythmic sensibility about them that’s sure to get people moving.
