Bachata is danced in partnership, and picking a role helps us balance the room. Not sure which to choose?
Typically, the ‘leader’ guides the dance by suggesting where to go, when to turn and how the movement flows. It's a creative, communicative role, rather than a strict lead.
‘Followers’ respond to those cues and add their own style and musicality. Following is just as skilled and expressive as leading. In our class, followers start the step, so the dance begins with you.
But in Dominican bachata, there isn’t a clear leader or follower, more of a guide and response dynamic.
