DMLab Gloucester - Hackathon

Do you make electronic music? Code multimedia apps? Tinker with electronics?

Would you like to learn more, or share what you know?

DMLab is a community of makers and musicians using our skills to develop new accessible musical instruments. This programme is already running in London and Manchester, and we will now be bringing our own version of DMLab to Gloucester in 2025 and 2026.

In this first DMLab Gloucester Hackathon, we will be looking at making our own MIDI interfaces to turn movement into music. Using inexpensive Arduino boards, we will be exploring a range of sensors as a way of getting data into a computer, tablet or phone and trigger sound.

We will be exploring live briefs to meet the needs of participants who come to music sessions at The Music Works, and building devices that widen participation and musical expression.

If you have ever wanted to build your own MIDI controller but don’t know where to start, then this workshop is for you, as it will give you the skills and confidence to begin tinkering at home and begin building unique interfaces to help you & others make music.

Venue: The Lab, Gloucester Library, Access via Kings Square, Gloucester.
