The Creative Activities team at Arts SU have coordinated a programme of ‘Know Your Resources’ Library, Archive, Museum and Gallery tours as part of 2017 Fresher’s Festival.
Here at Arts SU we recognise the importance of access to art and learning. We have worked in partnership with some of the best collections in London to create a programme of behind the scenes tours which will not only give you a flavour for the organisation, but give you the chance to interact with collection highlights, meet specialist staff and sign up to access the space for you research in the future.
These tours are open to all joining students of 2017 but booking is essential to gauge numbers. They are completely free to join.
We look forward to meeting you.
Archives tour at Bishopsgate Institute
Since opening to the public in 1895, Bishopsgate Institute’s archivists and librarians have been gathering materials which tell the stories of everyday people in London. The collection strengths are London, protest, campaigning and LGBTQ histories since the 1800s.
This behind-the-scenes tour, led by Stefan Dickers, Bishopsgate Institute’s Special Collection and Archives Manager, will explore highlights from the collection. You’ll have the opportunity to see the book that nearly caused world revolution, some of the most seminal punk fanzines of the 1970s and the first LGBTQ newspaper published in the UK.
Please meet inside the Main Entrance at 2pm.
