Formed in a dimly lit garage tucked away in Southampton, we quickly bonded over a shared love for dynamic riffs, introspective lyrics, and heart-pounding beats. Our sound is a blend of raw, gritty energy fused with hypnotic indie grooves. Drawing inspiration from the Arctic Monkeys' sharp energy, the intensity of Queens of the Stone Age, and the psychedelic rhythms of The Stone Roses, we strive to create a sound that's both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. With every track, we aim to carve out something uniquely ours—while still tapping into the timeless elements of rock that we’ve always loved.
Simon Maggs (guitar & vocals), Gary Winstanley (guitar) and Chris Bluemel (violin) are three-fifths of indie folk band People Like Us.
Amy Jolliffe is a singer-songwriter from the Isle of Wight whose summery sound combines rich vocal harmonies, vintage guitar tones and warm, resonant percussion.
Amy was Brave Island’s ‘Young Creative of the Month’ in March 2025. She has performed at the Isle of Wight Festival five times and was shortlisted twice for the ‘Wight Noize’ competition, where the winner performed on the mainstage at the festival.
Amy’s favourite artists include Flyte, Maggie Rogers, Julia Jacklin and Holly Humberstone. Her heartfelt lyrics are inspired by real-life experiences, exploring themes of youth, love and self-discovery. In March 2025, she was awarded funding from the 'Mike Howley Trust', which she used to record new music at Empire Sound Studio with producer Dan Ashdown.Literate, indie-folkie songs blend catchy melodies with wry lyrical storytelling, rich with relatable real-life themes and occasional kitchen-sink narratives.
Their sound draws inspiration from the likes of Billy Bragg, Paul Heaton, The Smiths, and Frank Turner — mixing folk charm with a touch of protest and plenty of heart. Recent releases like Baby Boomers, Cartoon Fantasy, and One For The Teenagers showcase their upbeat, melodic side, while tracks like Two Legs Better reveals a darker more, reflective edge and Last Man Standing brings out a rockabilly side.
My name might be common, but my style is alternative. I’m Charlie Smith, a songwriter from Hampshire. I perform solo (acoustic guitar & vocals) and have experience playing and hosting my own independent shows at venues such as The Railway Inn, Flack Manor Brewery, and The Platform Tavern. I am super passionate about grassroots music and regularly participate in action to grow my local scene. Fiercely independent, I record and produce all music with a true DIY ethos.
Released on the 28th, Vitamin D Supplements is my new two-track single. Originally, both recordings were made back in 2020, but I have done a drastic remix and rearrangement of both tracks. Having taught myself drums over the last four months, I have added drums to the title track, which, while not perfect, was very fun to do.
'Vitamin D Supplements' is an indie punk track that features a laid-back verse and slightly erratic choruses, with a two-section outro that builds to a climax. Raw, edgy and trashy.
'Rich Amphibian': Short, sharp acoustic punk.
To support this release in April, I am going on tour, hosting six gigs across England, where I will be raising funds for the fabulous Music Venue Trust and looking to promote grassroots music. It is a privilege to be in a position to be able to support a worthy cause.
