The scale and beauty of Stowe has attracted visitors for over 300 years. Picture-perfect views, winding paths, lakeside walks and temples create a timeless landscape, reflecting the changing seasons. Full of hidden meaning, the gardens were created as an earthly paradise, and still cast their spell today.
The New Inn visitor centre outside the gardens conjures up the experience of early Georgian visitors in recreated parlour rooms used by Stowes first tourists 300 years ago.
Stowe House is an architectural masterpiece on an immense and palatial scale and contains the work of a number of leading eighteenth century designers– notably Sir John Vanbrugh, Robert Adam, James Gibbs, William Kent and Sir John Sloane.
From sixteenth century sheep farmers to nineteenth century dukes, the resident Temple-Grenville family made their name by marrying heiresses and worked their way up the title ladder.
The café offers delicious fresh food and unique products inspired by the gardens. The sheer size and space is perfect for those who love the outdoors and enjoy walking. A short walk or a ride in a buggy takes you into the gardens, where another world awaits.
