Peace, Love, Respect, Unity.

Acid House was a revolutionary movement in British youth culture when elements of Chicago, London and Ibiza fused into an entirely new sound and sensibility. Acid House ushered in ‘The Second Summer of Love', was a scene that would forever changed the face of music culture, and whose massive success is arguably the moment when house music was pushed out of the underground to became a truly global phenomenon.

Springing from DJ legend Ron Hardy’s Music Box parties in Chicago, Acid House was a fragmentary house music style underpinned by the unique squelching sounds of the Roland TB 303 bass synthesiser.

Acid's seminal records including Phuture’s ‘acid trax’ and Sleezy D’s ‘i've lost control’, Adonis ’no way back’ were filtering across the channel as imports and were scattered through a few new underground of clubs where DJs, musicians, designers and dancers would play, hear, dance, lose their minds to these records (often during their first encounter with the new drug Ecstasy) and would be changed forever.

Initially Acid House came to public attention through clubs like London’s ‘Shoom' and 'Amnesia', at 'Nude' in Manchester's Hacienda, though strictly speaking the music was simultaneously finding champions and audience across the country at Edinburgh gay night 'Fire Island’, Aberdeen DJ Jacqui Morrison's 'Acid Jax' (Scotland's first Acid House night) and with Chicago tracks being dropped from the very earliest days of the then brand new Sub Club at nights 'Ecstasy’ and ‘Slam’ (run by a couple of young tearaways called Orde & Meikle).

JD Twitch casts an ear across the musical legacy of Acid House for this special exploration and celebration of UK dance music history. With 30 years partying experience, 10 years as resident and cofounder of seminal club night PURE, 20 years as one half of Glasgow’s legendary Optimo, Twitch has been profoundly immersed in dance culture for most of his creative life. As a DJ his credentials are beyond reproach. As a music fanatic he possesses an enviable knowledge and no small degree of personal experience of this phenomenon that we broadly term DANCE MUSIC.

Most recently Twitch was involved in curating a musical soundtrack for the film ‘BEATS’ which follows the experience of two young Scottish lads attending their first illegal rave during the economic misery of 1980’s Scotland. The timing and topicality seems right, so Sub Club proudly present an evening dancing through the musical legacy of Acid House.
