New Routes: Burning Salt + Neil Graham

Another installment in the New Routes series, an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists.

Set out cabaret style with candles on tables, it’s a comfortable and intimate space to listen to the best emerging and established artists from the area.

Burning Salt

Burning Salt are Hannah Hull (vocals, guitar), Bobby Williams (electric guitar) and John Parker (double bass). Their music is based round the startlingly honest songs of Hannah Hull, and her direct and distinctive voice. Fans have described her unusual vocal style as “scraped out of an ashtray somewhere in the early 90s,” and “Friday night meets Sunday morning.”

Poetic, raw and alive, their performances draw on folk, country and blues. A dark and haunting trio of voice, guitar and double bass. In the vein of PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and Tom Waits.

Neil Graham

Neil Graham is a Scottish singer-songwriter influenced by all manner of roots music; blues, folk, Americana, amongst a plethora of other styles. He began songwriting as a wee boy, singing nonsense to the rhythm of the washing machine. One day his mam caught him and said "hey that's not bad!" and so he picked up a guitar. His songs range from the romantic to the tragic, to the sometimes comic, and his guitar skills echo the twangs of the likes of Davy Graham and John Martyn. You can hear that Glasgow rasp in his voice too! A must see of up and coming songwriters.
