NOUR FESTIVAL PRESENTS: DJ IPEK AND KHALED KADAAL
Nour presents two DJ stars of the Middle East.
DJ Ipek’s Eklektik BerlinIstan set provides a surprising break from the steady course of club music today. Inspired by her passion for ethnic music and genre-hopping dance beats, Ipek spins tunes from Turkey, Middle East, Anatolia (Mesopotamia) and the Balkans. Psychedelic Turkish funk, Balkan and Anatolian folk, Kurdish halay and Iranian bandari all mesh with disco, techno, and electro.
Khaled Kadaal reflects on the thresholds of listening, questioning the radical margin between consonance and dissonance, silence and noise. He is interested in enlarging the understanding of oriental aesthetic by taking it to a post-music territory, where the musical structures are de-composed to the notions of sounds.
Accompanied by visuals, his performances use electronic and acoustic instruments to form a sonic narration, to dance the mind, instead of the body.
