Caulbearers - Live at Lilac, Leeds

Manchester's Caulbearers come to LILAC in Leeds for a stripped back line-up featuring vocals, cello, keyboard, percussion and guitars.

About this event

Caulbearers are a Manchester-based (+ one Leeds based!) collective of musicians, but with contributors also hailing from around the UK and Europe.

Based on the songs of producer and vocalist Damien Mahoney, their sound has been described as “archaic funk fables and soul migrations… bittersweet songs of the self, soul and society” and “roots music from the rainy city… psychedelic soul with poetic, social observation.”

A limited number of tickets for this special concert in the Common House.  All proceeds to the artists.

Lilac stands for 'Low Impact Living Affordable Community' and is a pioneering co-housing community of 20 eco-build households in West Leeds. The concert will take place in The Common House communal space. https://www.lilac.coop/

Following the releases of 'Over Comes A Cloud' and 'Burst Through The Borders' during lockdown, Caulbearers' current release is the single & video for 'Twisted Cord'.

"it’s our pleasure to reveal the brilliant video for this song. Between the music and the cinematography, there’s so much to appreciate in this audio-visual offering." - Louder Than War Magazine.

"Twisted Cord throbs from the heart of 70s funk, walking in platforms with its Kool and the Gang of disco, dub, and hip-hop. It’s a headspinning track that crosses the roads of many genres and sub-genres of grassroots music, whilst venturing out further afield." - Single Of The Month - The Manc Review

The ensemble weave together elements of hip-hop, funk, dub, soul and jazz, with plenty of grit and discord in the mix.
Caulbearers’ rhythms, arrangements and soundscapes are hugely inspired by many forms of electronic music but are solely channelled through the use of live instruments.

This music reflects Manchester’s melting pot of culture and unashamedly draws from that rich heritage, but its influences and inspirations extend out globally.
