About the venue: A pub and dining room rated 4.1 from more than 2,770 reviews, mid-priced, open 11:30am to 11pm Monday to Thursday. Note the name: it traded until recently as the European Bier Cafe, so older references and signage may differ. Reviewers describe a rooftop bar used for private functions — one recounts hosting twenty guests there with champagne on arrival — so it is set up for groups.

Getting there: The venue is on Exhibition Street in the Melbourne CBD, three minutes' walk from Parliament station on the City Loop, and within the Free Tram Zone which covers the whole central grid — so travel to it costs nothing from anywhere in the CBD. Given that, and CBD parking rates, public transport is much the easier arrival.
