In April Retribution Alive's FESTIVAL OF DANCE OR DEATH brings you a day of pagan, folk, death and black metal and more, across 2 stages in the heart of Camden!

Pagan/folk metallers WAYLANDER from Northern Ireland headline the main stage at THE LOUNGE, while WRETCHED SOUL headline the second stage at THE DEV.

The Dev is free entry as usual but you'll need to purchase a ticket for the main stage at The Lounge.

WAYLANDER

After their second demo entitled 'Dawning of a New Age' (1996) WAYLANDER gained a prominent position in the fledgling Folk Metal scene thanks also to the addition of a full time tin-whistle player in the line up .Such position was cemented when WAYLANDER released their debut album 'Reawakening Pride Once Lost' in 1998. After overcoming some line-up changes, the band's sophomore album, 'The Light, the Dark and the Endless Knot' was released in 2001.

In the last few years notable festivals and tours followed including Summer Breeze, Hammerfest, Hard Rock Hell, Bloodstock, Cernunnos Pagan Fest, Black Trolls Over Europe and Ultima Ratio Festival, as well as gigs all over Europe with some of the biggest names in the industry.

In 2008 WAYLANDER signed to Listenable Records and released their acclaimed third album, 'Honour Amongst Chaos', which received a fantastic reaction worldwide. This set the tone for their fourth studio release, 'Kindred Spirits'. “Kindred Spirits' is claimed to be the bands strongest work to date and helped push the band's sound to a much heavier and more distinctive place.

The band will once again enter Stone Circle studio to record the 5th full length album in April. This will be WAYLANDER's first concept album which will bring the listener on a journey through the wheel of the Pagan year, beginning at Samhain and ending at the Autumn Equinox. The 8 songs will attempt to encapsulate the atmosphere of the changing seasons as well as the celebrationary, yet solemn, vibe of the four fire festivals, solstices and equinoxs.

The new album will be released via Listenable Records on the 22nd March 2019

ISARNOS

The London-based "city-dwelling Celtic filth" have been gaining a reputation as one of the best live bands on the UK folk metal scene since their live debut 2016, including memorable performances at Bloodstock festival in 2016, headlining and selling-out the 2017 Jorvik Viking Festival metal show, two incredible performances each at Warhorns festival 2016 and 2018 and Beermageddon 2017 and 2019, and signing off 2018 by opening the main stage for Decapitated at Mammothfest 2018 and hitting maximum capacity (c600) of the second stage at the inaugural Hard Rock Hell Vikings event in Sheffield.

Influenced by early melodic death metal bands, black metal and early metalcore, traditional Celtic folk music and even movie soundtracks, Isarnos have created a distinct personality - seamlessly combining technical guitar and drums with complex violin and flute melodies. Authentic to the roots of folk music, Isarnos don't use backing tracks or synthesizers, playing only Live instruments including violin, tinwhistle, hurdy burdy, Irish bouzouki, and occasionally the bodhran and bagpipes. Isarnos have also received worldwide exposure of their early recordings, with their initial demo tracks played in over 110 countries worldwide via Soundcloud as well as through online radio stations in the UK, Europe and South America.

2019 will see the release of Isarnos' debut album "Uediiu", which will feature 60+ minutes of Extreme folk metal, traditional folk music, acapella passages and spoken word. CALL OF FENRIR

Born from the minds of vocalist Wolf (ex Matria and ex Forsaken Allegiance) and former lead guitarist Jeff barber, Call of Fenrir started their assault onto the South-East London / Kent metal scene. To add to the mix, we enlisted guitarist, violin fiddler Olivia Kennett (ex Dark Theory) and drummer James Lockey (Detoxen) With a slight line up change with the departure of Jeff Barber and former Bassist Adz Evans, guitarist Tom Sawyer (Mark of Decay) and bassist Thomas Debenham (Detoxen) we took up our shields and joined in battle.

Following the birth of his shieldmaiden daughter, Wolf left the band in July 2017, along with Guitarist Tom 'Yggdrasil' Sawyer. Added to the horde in their place were Joe 'Thor' Kolendo (Detoxen) on lead guitar and Adam 'Beserker' Sherwood (Ex Abandon The Faith) on vocals. This saw the band adjust their sound to a more mixed range of vocals, with Adam on death growls, and Olivia doing occasional clean vocals. 

The band first gigged at Red Roar Festival 2016 at the Red Lion, Gravesend and have since been back, continuing to gig there fairly regularly. Call of Fenrir have also played Retribution Alive at the Unicorn, Camden and also had the honour of supporting upcoming Swedish Vikings Grimner, along with fellow folk metalers Isarnos.

WRETCHED SOUL

Wretched Soul is a modern sounding British Blackened Heavy Metal outfit formed in the historic city of Canterbury. The cornerstone elements of melody, aggression and conviction allow Wretched Soul’s music to resonate with a vast cross-section of fans, regardless of any specific sub-genre preferences. Described by Zero Tolerance Magazine as "refreshingly difficult to categorise", they have also been hailed by Terrorizer Magazine as "one of the UK's most promising underground Thrash bands."

SEVEN MAIN SINS

We are SEVEN MAIN SINS. The name might seem confusing, as it’s not about the seven deadly sins as in the christian church dogma – it’s about the sins we like to commit and love so much, and our music is an attempt to describe them… the gates are always open! The band was founded by the guitar players, Marcin Adaszewski and Artur Kruczyński, in 2005 in Ełk, Poland. Playing atmospheric death/black metal, “Demo A.D. 2005” has received numerous positive reviews on the internet and independent zines. Between 2005 and 2006 the band played several concerts, after which had gone on hiatus due to unforeseen circumstances. After the break, Marcin decided to reactivate the band in Huntingdon (Cambridgeshire) U.K. In 2012 Marcin met the now – vocalist Łukasz Misiewicz in a mental health clinic and the train got back on track, so to speak. The band ‘s style is mirroring the members’ thoughts and feelings, ripped out from their insides. Circling between black and death metal, Seven Main Sins like to call this musical sphere as Dark Metal. Or, whatever fits. Seven Main Sins are in the process of recording the full – length album “In The Shadow Of Death”.

Between 2005 and 2006 Seven Main Sins played over dozen concerts in Northern - East Poland. Band played with a legend of polish metal scene - TURBO, and had a mini tour with UNION (CHRIST AGONY).

From middle of 2017 band is performing in UK. Seven Main Sins have taken a part in M2TM in Liverpool, Sempiternal Festival in Cannock and Facebarmageddon in Reading. April / May 2018 Seven Main Sins took a part in M2TM London competition Heat 10 and progressed to quarterfinals, next on 27th of May qualified to semifinals.

February 2019, band played on Heat 12 M2TM 2019 London and qualified to quarterfinals.

IMMINENT ANNIHILATION

Imminent Annihilation formed in late 2011 and has been constantly evolving since day one. In 2014 we entered the studio to record their debut EP; 'The Annex Between Creation and Annihilation', available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play and other online retailers and streaming sites.

Since then we have been working on different styles of metal, taking influence from wherever we found it and are now currently working on a follow up to 'Annex'. We are entering the studio at the end of September 2018 to begin recording our debut full length album (as yet untitled), which we plan to release in 2019.

Through taking part and winning Bloodstock's Metal 2 The Masses competition (Oxford region), we secured ourselves a spot on the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock Festival 2018.
