BlackBox Presents: Dixon Avenue Basement Jams + O'Flynn

[Real rockin' raw shit from the street for the clubs]

---------------------------------------------------------

We’re back in the tunnels for our first party of the year - with a smaller capacity than some of our nights in York, tickets are limited and will likely move quickly…

As a label, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams (a.k.a Dan ‘Monox’ Lurinsky and Kenny ‘The Wasp’ Grieve) are responsible for heavy releases from the likes of fellow Glaswegian rising-star Denis Sulta and previous BlackBox guest Palms Trax, along with underground talent like Marquis Hawkes, Detroit Swindle and Big Miz.

However, before the label was conceived in 2012, the duo had spent a decade mastering their skills in the booth at legendary Monox club (“Glasgow’s Berghain”, as Jackmaster put it), along with longstanding connections with Rubadub and surrounding Glasgow nightclubs, proving Monox and The Wasp are expert selectors and technical DJs. Their mixes have found incredible acclaim on Rinse FM, Boiler Room, XLR8R, Juno Plus whilst being able to hold down an array of the best clubs across the rest of the UK, Europe and even the Middle East.

A brief glance at DABJ’s impressive discography or one of their DJ sets is enough to see why their motto is “Real rockin' raw shit from the street for the clubs”.

Alongside DABJ, we’ll have up and coming London producer and DJ O’Flynn. Responsible for one of the standout 12 inches of 2015, and one of our favorite records - the percussive, African-influenced house heaters ‘Tyrion/Desmond’s Empire’ fired brand new imprint Blip Discs into the realm of independent labels worth taking note of. It became a tool for the likes of Four Tet and Gilles Peterson, and the follow up ‘Oberyn/Spyglass’ gained huge airtime on Radio 1 and Rinse FM from James Blake and Hessle Audio respectively.

He’s returning at the end of September on none other than Ninja Tune (home of Bonobo, Cinematic Orchestra, Roots Manuva) with ‘Pluto's Beating Heart / Eleven’, maintaining the pace as an exciting new name in the scene. Hailed by Boiler Room as “one of dance music’s most prosperous newcomers”, we’re psyched to have him join us in York!

To round things off, we’ll have support from our BlackBox residents, who will be bringing their usual high grade selections to get you on your feet.

See you in the dance.
