Alice Birch's theatrical provocation, co-commissioned by Clean Break, reaches across society to explore the impact of the criminal justice system on women and their families. Following in the footsteps of Caryl Churchill, Blank is uniquely written as a jigsaw of mix and match scenes, offering “a challenge and an invitation” for each producing team to make their own play. Is it possible to break with our inherited behaviour? How can change be achieved if we do not accept that people should be held responsible for their actions?
