Bristol based punk band land in Edinburgh as a part of their UK tour on the 5th of April 2025
Bristol’s Hypothetics deliver an experimental post-grunge sound that confronts hazy folk melodies, cascading rhythms and tortured electronics.
Their debut album, ‘The Crossing’ is out 28th February 2025.
Following the release of their clattering EP ‘GETS LET DOWN!’, the band entered a period of introspection and creative upheaval. Driven by experimentation, Hypothetics began to remould the hard edges of their sound. Galvanised by their dynamic relationship with producer Simon Willey (Bryan Ferry, Quade, The Bug), the band’s search culminated in a pilgrimage to Scotland's Outer Hebrides.
Their two-week residency at Black Bay Studios on the Isle of Lewis saw them writing and recording relentlessly, drawing inspiration from the rugged landscape and its lore. The album explores themes of desperation, sacrifice and isolation, meditating on nature and oral traditions. Hazy folk melodies and acoustic instruments are confronted with tortured electronics, creating a sound world that is visceral and beautiful.
Reconciling modernity with old beauty, ‘The Crossing’ is a departure and a homecoming, and represents Hypothetics’ most vulnerable work to date.
