An outdoor theatre performance for all ages led by a flock of birds, Told In Gold features a massive goldfinch nest auditorium and is soundtracked by Spell Songs, the stunning musical interpretations of Robert Macfarlane's words.
Spells wrapped around trees, words to be discovered in the woodland, and lines of spells perched on branches like starlings.
With sound recordings of the spell poems from some of Britain’s famous voices of all ages and accents, Seek, Find, Speak came alive in 2018 and 2019, grew into The Lost Words: Told In Gold in 2019 and, following an enforced hibernation in 2020-21, has now woken from its slumber for a new updated production throughout 2022 and beyond.
Entrance is on Tudor Avenue (Sports Field entrance opposite the hairdressers). Parking is available on Tudor Avenue itself.
There are toilet facilities available on site at the arts centre - a short walk from the performance area.
Due to the dome space being enclosed during this section of the performance LATECOMERS WILL NOT BE ADMITTED. Please arrive at least ten minutes before scheduled start time.
Appropriate footwear is suggested (think trainers, rather than flip-flops!). Similarly, undergrowth has been trimmed in our woodland trail, but as some stray nettles and brambles may still be present, we'd recommend trousers rather than shorts!
We use strobe lighting briefly within our dome performance, but should you or anyone else in your party have any issues with strobes, please let us know at least 24hrs prior to your booked performance and we'll be happy to replace with a static light.
Seating within the dome space is on the floor, on rugs and hessian sacks. If you are unable to sit on the floor comfortably, please let us know at least 24hrs prior to your booked performance and we'll arrange alternative seating for you. Please note, such seating is strictly limited due to space.
If you have any other access requirements, again, please let us know at least one day before your booking.
