Mime Taster Workshop

This is an online event!

Welcome to the world of mime! Ready to try something new? Want to get creative? Learn how to tell stories and entertain? Then this is the class for you.

Mime is the art of instantly creating illusions with very few or no props or sounds.

You will be encouraged to discover your own strengths to create believable illusions, and to develop instinctive clown and acting skills to bolster your individual characterisations.

What's Included?

These monthly workshops take different elements from the 8 week course and may include any of the following:

Classic mime illusions

  • Leaning, surfaces, walls, doors, glass, stairs, elevators, escalators, driving, eating, slow motion, walks on-the-spot, ‘moonwalk’, ropes, ladders, robotics, marionette, sitting, reading, animals, sports, hobbies, et cetera.

Isolation exercises

To create believable illusions through awareness of the articulation of your body’s joints (NOT to be confused with Covid-style isolation)

  • States of Tension in the body creating resistance – the key to illusions!

Invisible weight

  • How to shift your weight to create effort through pushing and pulling, using your weight placement to become a victim - being pushed and pulled and your attitude to the above conditions – the play and philosophy of struggle.
