Oh Well, Goodbye w/Avalyn + The Dead Animal

QU A RR Y is delighted to present an evening with Liverpool post-punk band Oh Well, Goodbye (Gold Records, Hail Records). Support from local shoegazers Avalyn & the Dead Animal.

Oh Well, Goodbye are a four-piece band from Liverpool, England who initially burst onto the UK music scene with their debut EP, ‘BG092’. The release was overseen by cult U.S label Bleeding Gold Records, which later forged a gateway for the band, releasing several EP’s after that. Oh Well, Goodbye originated from the concept of a solo project. Philip Rourke (founder of EDILS records/booking) quickly assembled like minded musicians and played a scattering of shows in London, Manchester and various other locations around England throughout several tours. Oh Well, Goodbye, are completed by long standing member Andy Fernihough (Drums), with relative newcomers Shaun Lanceley (Guitars) and Ronald R Ziegekabine (Bass) joining in late 2018 and have continued to push creative boundaries as a unit, whilst fully maintaining their Lo-Fi DIY, post-punk roots.

Since the days of the bands first EP, ‘BG092’, Oh Well, Goodbye have cemented their position on Liverpool’s local music scene. Their success has seen the four-piece produce and release several EP’s through Bleeding Gold Records (US) & D.I.Y. merchants, EDILS Records (UK), Hail Hail Records (UK) & Melted Ice Cream (NZ) since 2015. The releases titled ‘Swoon’, ‘Acquiescence’ and the upcoming ‘Affinity: Part One’ have presented a progressive and exciting step, showcasing their bittersweet musical movements that border the edge of collapse. Finding themselves under the ‘post-punk’ bracket, which always suggests a sense of murky ground Oh Well, Goodbye find a way to counteract this pre-conception. A lush mix of shoe-gaze reverberated noise and a dance-punk orientated rhythm machine section, the band find subtle textures and undertones that subside beneath the chaos. This makes for a murkily addictive assemblage of post-punk sounds and gritty absorbing textures. As beautiful as it is ugly, the nonchalant display masks the chaos and vulnerability underneath.
