POLEXIA! 'A Burial, A Ressurection' EP Launch

Come and join us on planet Polexia! for a night of experimental performance and music in celebration of the launch of their EP ' A Burial, A Resurrection' , kindly released by Outsider Art on August the 29th.

Polexia! Have entered a new phase. Through letting go of themes found in their earlier work, the band have reemerged with their aptly titled EP “A Burial, A Resurrection” taking them from humble DIY origins to a multilayered, esoteric and stylish force. A Burial, A Resurrection is odd but not disorientating, humorous but not unserious and ultimately, it is Scouse. In just three songs, Polexia! take you into their strange world of rebirth, death by machinery and the social hierarchy found only in smoking areas after midnight, dragging you further in with their hypnotic immersive sampling and cacophonous industrial beats, all sewn together by Johanna Connolly’s recognisable, unaltered voice, creating a record that’s hard to pin down but impossible to ignore. Polexia! Are an industrial duo consisting of Johanna Connolly and Jezebel Halewood-Leagas. Since the release of their first record “Immolation” (SPINE Records, 2021) the band has changed direction and line-up, taking inspiration from early female electronic pioneers and moving onto sounds not dissimilar from Chris & Cosey and Malaria!, also featuring strong No Wave elements. Their new record “ A Burial, A Resurrection” (Aug 2022, Outsider Arts) is an exploration into their new sound, whilst keeping trademark themes, such as sampling, spoken word vocals and esoteric industrial beats.

Joining us will be...

Silvia Battista

Silvia Battista is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised among the ruins of Rome, Italy. She is interested in weaving together visuals, storytelling, and sound to deliver experiences and journeys that are visceral, hypnotic and visionary. Speculative fiction is central to her performance work that, by drawing on and queering symbolic languages, encourages reflection on contemporary questions related to identity, perception, ecological and social justice. Inspired by the work of artists such as Laurie Anderson, Pauline Oliveros, Kimmo Pohjonen and Patti Smith she draws on the power of mythopoetic practices in contemporary performance.
