Formed in Japan in 1995 by Makoto Kawabata as the Acid Mothers Temple Soul Collective, the previously described 'noise-freaks-turned-millennial-hippies' have since released around 80 albums representing one of the most daunting discographies in contemporary music. The effervescent psych prog masters have also toured extensively, recently performing rounds of head-melting psychedelia at more than 100 shows each year around both Americas, Asia and Europe (including at the famed Glastonbury Festival). Immensely prolific in the studio and controlledly chaotic live, the Acid Mothers Temple's every musical gesture is so amplified or exaggerated even when minimalist, as though they are 'cosmic troubadours' intending their work to be witnessed from across the solar system. Specializing in "trip" music, a meltdown of entire genres and movements all re-imagined in a form quite fit to liquefy your consciousness. In a non-stop stream of thrilling noise, they segue from supercharged stomp-rock, through doomy choral chanting and frazzled go-go, to a thundering melee of atonal freakouts.
